Internet dating takes the cake

An old friend came around with his new friend the other day. They were a happy couple. New love is so sweet.

"How did you two meet?" I asked.

"The modern way," my friend said, promptly and proudly.

Indeed.

In case you missed it, the world has changed and forming relationships after meeting online is absolutely the done thing. It's taken over. Not only is it practical, convenient and exciting, it's chic.

In fact, if you did not meet your partner through the internet, I wouldn't, y'know, spread it around. So, so ... unsophisticated.

it's so funny how attitudes to this have changed so much. Only a few years back people would even talk with the hand over their mouth saying "She met him on the internet"!!

I read a blog once where a woman was defending social networking and was quite insulted that after six years of being with her partner, her family still referred to him as her internet friend.

Now it's just so cool.

You've summed it up beautifully. These days, if you announce that you met someone on the internet, the response is likely to be, "Which site?"

I met my ex on myspace. lol my new beau and I started talking on myspace as well, although we had seen each other at work in passing and made small talk whenever he came in to deliver. I think in our case, it worked out talking online first, then texting, then phone, then hanging out.
